2015 was a celebratory year for St Columba’s Primary School, Iona Road, Dublin. On Saturday, 17 October the school community celebrated its 90th birthday. Past pupils, parents, staff, members of the Board of Management, Holy Faith Sisters and the Parish community joined the present pupils for the Anniversary Mass in the Parish Church. In his homily, the celebrant, Mgr. Dan O’Connor, linked the life and faith mission of St Columba, with the life and mission of the Holy Faith Foundress, Margaret Aylward, and located these inspirational leaders in the school’s mission and work today.
In September a visitor from the Archdiocese of Sydney Catholic Education Office visited St Columba’s, Mother of Divine Grace Primary, Ballygall, Dublin, and St Brigid’s Primary School, Greystones, Co. Wicklow as part of a study of good practice. The visitor was impressed with the great programmes’ the vibrant spirit of the schools, the leadership of the principals, the learning curiosity of the children, and the excitement around teaching and learning in these schools. The concluding words of her thank you letter read “Holy Faith has much to be proud of in these schools and I extend my gratitude to, and admiration for, each of the principals and their teachers”.
