In solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters we pray that God will have mercy on those who died while performing the Hajj. We pray for their relatives and friends.
We pray too for healing those who have been injured and for those who are waiting for news of their loved ones who were in Mina at the time of the tragedy.
The Hajj is a pilgrimage to Mecca which all Muslims are obliged to make once in a lifetime if they have health and the financial means to travel. The final stage takes place at Mina just outside Mecca.
In recent times, with travel more accessible, numbers attending the hajj have increased and some Muslims are undertaking the pilgrimage more than once, thus swelling the numbers even more.
