As we say goodbye to Season of Creation 2023, which celebrated God’s creation from September 1st to October 4th, we’re reminded of the pressing need to champion justice and safeguard our shared planet. This season encourages individuals of faith and conscience to recognize the beauty of God’s creation and advocate for its preservation, drawing inspiration from the words of Amos, “let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream.” Today, various injustices imperil our planet’s sustainability, with vulnerable communities bearing the brunt. Pope Francis’s Laudato Si‘ underscores the Earth’s neglect and maltreatment, emphasizing our duty to protect it for the common good. The Season of Creation urges us all to unite for justice, emphasizing that individual actions can have a significant impact. Beyond October 4th, the publication of Pope Francis’s sequel, “Laudate Deum,” serves as a reminder that our commitment to our common home should persist and intensify in the face of the climate emergency we collectively face.
