Let Nature Breathe This May!

Support #NoMowMay — a small act with a big impact for biodiversity.

This May, we are letting our green spaces grow wild to support bees, butterflies, and all the small creatures that keep our world alive. A simple pause can help nature flourish. 💚 Join us in caring for creation.

No Mow May is more than an environmental campaign — it is a moment to slow down, notice the quiet work of creation, and reconnect with the rhythms of the earth. As the grass grows, so too does our awareness of the interconnectedness of all life. In the spirit of Margaret Aylward and our Holy Faith tradition, may we continue to nurture life in all its forms and respond with compassion to the needs of our common home.

As we welcome the bright new growth of May, the Holy Faith community is once again invited to take part in this simple but powerful initiative that encourages us to pause, step back, and allow nature the space it needs to breathe. No Mow May asks households, schools, parishes, and communities to leave lawns and grassy areas uncut for the month of May. By doing so, we give wildflowers the chance to bloom and provide essential food for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators at a time of year when they need it most.

Why It Matters

Ireland’s biodiversity is under real pressure. Pollinators — especially bees — are declining due to habitat loss, pesticides, and climate change. Yet the solution can begin right outside our doors. When we let grass grow naturally, even for a few weeks, we create:

• Vital early‑season nectar for pollinators

• Shelter for insects and small wildlife

• Healthier soil and improved carbon storage

• A richer, more diverse ecosystem in our own neighbourhoods

This small act becomes a living expression of our Holy Faith commitment to care for creation, honouring the beauty and fragility of the natural world entrusted to us.
