This year several Holy Faith sisters participated in the Easter ceremonies in a retirement home run by the Sisters of Nazareth in Los Angeles. We joined family and friends of the residents for the ceremonies of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday morning Mass.
It was an experience of Faith Alive! The symbolic washing of the Feet was carried out with great reverence on Holy Thursday by the celebrant, Fr Frank. A sprightly 92 year old mother of ten read the small parts of the Passion in a clarion clear and firm voice With the assistance of several types of walking aids and, in spite of a few creaking limbs, many residents were able to join in the candle procession at the Vigil. A resounding ‘I do’ affirmed the renewal of the baptismal promises.
Our participation was greatly enhanced by two magnificent singers from a neighboring parish accompanied by piano, cello and flute. The singing and instrumental music reflected the sombre and exuberant moods of the liturgy and was always devotional.
The Easter Alleluia was in the air during pastry and coffee time on Easter Sunday and the joy of the residents when wishing one another Happy Easter was infectious. We all experienced the joy of the Risen Lord!
