Lithuanian- born but Limerick-based artist, Daiva Stasiukynaite, was delighted to be approached to design and produce a wall hanging in the Margaret Aylward Centre for Faith and Dialogue. We wanted a design which would not compete with the surrounding natural beauty nor with the light flooding the building but one which would inspire and draw us into beauty, silence and contemplation.
The medium of textile rather than paint or drawing would emphasise warmth and Daiva’s design, originally working from a coblalt/blue palette but incorporating more reds as the work progressed, does just that without breaking the colours of the landscape visible from the building. Daiva loves to use embroidery on her textiles thus adding a rich layer of texture to the work
We are delighted with the finished piece and thrilled to be able to play a small part in supporting artists working in Ireland.
