Our Holy Faith Associate and past student of Holy Faith Convent, Couva, Leela Ramdeen, was one of four women who received a special award from Pope Francis for her years of “long and exceptional service” to the Catholic Church in Trinidad and Tobago.
The Benemerenti Medal was presented recently by the Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Fortunatus Nwachukwu in a private ceremony at Archbishop’s House.
Archbishop Charles Jason Gordon referred to the women as ‘gifts to the local Church’, thanking them for their “long and tireless service” in different ministries of the Archdiocese.
Leela said it was a wonderful surprise as she had no idea that this was coming. She asked for prayers that as she continues to serve humanity, using the gifts God has bestowed on her, to promote social justice and build the common good.
Leela is a member of the Board of Credo Foundation for Justice, a Holy Faith ministry to socially displaced children and vulnerable communities. She is also an active voice against the death penalty in the Caribbean.
