Remembered in Canberra, Australia

The first group of Holy Faith sisters to go to Australia went to Canberra, the federal Capital, to the suburb of Campbell to open the new primary school, St Thomas More, in 1961. As well as serving the children of the parish, the school welcomed the children of the nearby Royal Military College, Duntroon, an Australian army facility.

This year, 2014, is the Golden Jubilee of the parish of St Thomas More and to coincide with that event, the new school hall was opened and named the Holy Faith School Hall in recognition of the sisters’ service there.

A prayer of intercession at the Mass read ‘ we thank the sisters for their generosity and selflessness in the pursuit of spreading the love and example of Jesus. We pray that our staff will continue the tradition of teaching excellence begun by the sisters fifty three years ago’.

The sisters thank the school principal, Mrs Margaret Pollard, her staff and the parish priest, Fr Julian Wellspring for this kind and generous gesture.
