UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty 2017

“Whenever men and women are condemned to live in poverty, human rights are violated. To come together to ensure that these rights are respected is our solemn duty”

Joseph Wresinski – founder of the International Movement ATD Fourth World

On Tuesday, 17 October 2017 five Holy Faith Sisters arrived independently to a gathering at the Commemorative Stone, Custom House Quay in the heart of Dublin’s Docklands. Representing Holy Faith Sisters they joined people from all walks of life interested in eradicating poverty in Ireland and the world.

It is thirty years since the movement ATD (All Together in Dignity) unveiled the first Commemorative Stone in Honour of Victims of Extreme Poverty in the Liberties and Human Rights Plaza in Paris, France.

This year the focus was on Hope and Responsibility generated by the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development. A former Irish Ambassador to the UN, Mr David Donoghue launched “The Global Goals mini boats of Hope. The music was provided by a spontaneous group, challenging and thought provoking lyrics were written by Fergus Mc Cabe.
