Border ministry is a new focus for Holy Faith Sisters in the US. Close to the US/Mexican border they will concentrate their efforts on women, families and particularly unaccompanied children.
Fully aware that immigration policy is a contentious issue in the US and now in many parts of the world, they are driven by compassion for those whose need is so desperate that they risk the sometimes dangerous journey to the border and across it. Children are sent across the border by their families to flee gang and drug related violence.
The sisters will work with other religious congregations and groups to respond to this humanitarian crisis.
Back in their Los Angeles base but still serving migrants, they will expand the English Language program of the Margaret Aylward Center. This center provides various settlement services to the undocumented and is supported by Holy Faith sisters, Associates and colleagues.
