St Pius X School in Glen Innes, Auckland now has a completely new building. The official blessing and opening ceremony was held early in the new school year on 21st February 2020. Amongst the invited guests were three Holy Faith Sisters – all former teachers at the school, Bishop Patrick Dunn, Bishop of Auckland, Bishop Peter Brown, Bishop of American Samoa, the Vicar for Catholic Education, a Member of Parliament and several past pupils. However, the stars of the day were the present pupils who ran the whole celebration from the opening liturgy, the formal welcome and then the entertainment with various cultural groups performing.
One of the past pupils, Vicki Aisher (nee Elliot) wrote, “St Pius X always holds a very special place in my heart and has always been a school with a wonderful feel about it, from the time when the Holy Faith Sisters first ran the school. It was so lovely to still have that feeling when I came back as an ex-pupil and it was because of the people! Our community was never a wealthy community, but rich in its people. I am so pleased to say it remains the same.”
A big thank you to the principal, Mr Paul Coakley, the staff, students and the Board of Trustees for a wonderful celebration.
