With Dave Donnellan

Cost:  €25       Deposit:  €10         Booking essential

Bring a packed lunch.  Tea/coffee provided

This is an experiential and participative workshop where in addition to a short input on the work of Rene Girard participants will be given an opportunity to explore their own experience of desire and that of the people of the Old Testament as they desired and awaited the birth of the Messiah. We will look at how desire affects our relationships and quality of life. How desire can very readily affect group behaviour. How desire can explain the love triangle and what the bible says about desire. Rene Girard is a French cultural anthropologist who formulated the Mimetic Theory of Desire. This theory suggests desire is triangular in nature. We learn how to desire through the desire of others.

Dave Donnellan is a member of the Partners in Faith adult faith education team. Over the past six years he has made a special study of the work of Girard and more recently presented a paper at the Colloquium on Violence and Religion, the annual Girard conference, applying Girardian theory to the Corrib Gas controversy.
