It has been a busy Summer. At this time of year some of our sisters who live in the USA, Australia, Trinidad and New Zealand make their way to Ireland for a chance to visit family, make a retreat, attend congregational meetings and spend some time in communities here catching up with old friends. There is always a buzz in the air.
This year we had an afternoon of small group conversations on our religious vocations: what are we passionate about and what keeps us going. Gratitude to God was in the air.
In a couple of months we will have the joy of a profession of vows when a sister in Trinidad makes her temporary profession. More on this later.
Shortly we will welcome two sisters back from South Sudan where they have been serving in the primary school in remote Riwoto. A lay volunteer will travel to Riwoto for the last term of the school year.
Two stalwarts of the congregation died in August, Sr Euphrasia Bergin and Sr Emerentia Smith. They had entered on the same day, 7 October 1940, and died within a week of one another and a continent apart. Emerentia died in Trinidad and, according to her wishes, was buried there, in Lapeyrouse cemetery Woodbrook. Euphrasia died in our nursing home, Marian House in Glasnevin and is buried in the convent cemetery. May they rest in peace!
